Whatever good thing that anyone has which gives him or her advantage over his neighbour, in any time or place, is grace. Grace is the advantage a man has over his neighbour, brother or sister, friend or foe because of a good thing he or she has.
Let’s give some examples of grace in this sense.
When you are educated and your education gives you an edge over someone else who does not have either the degree or quality of education that you possess, you’re walking in grace.
When you’re born with a silver spoon (that is, you have rich or wealthy parents), you’re already walking in a goodness and an advantage which many other children do not have. You’re walking in grace.
Perhaps, your dad or family have political degigree so that whatever you wanted (admission into higher institution, job, contract, or some other favour), you got; and, it’s because of these special connections that you got these blessings, then, you have something that many other people do not have; you have access to doors which the common or ordinary person does not have. Maybe, even your peers do not have these unique connections that have brought you into certain goodnesses. Then, my friend, you’re walking in grace.
Probably, you’re married and have children, and someone else does not have a spouse, how much less children: you have something good that someone else lacks. You’re walking in grace.
You are free and someone else is in prison, you have grace. You are in health and another is sick and groaning, praying and crying for relief. My friend, understand that you’re living in grace. You’re saved from sin and another man knows not how to come out of his or her sins, understand that you’re walking in grace.
Many people applied for a place in a great company, you got the job; many applied for visa, you were one of the lucky few granted visa; many applied for that same scholarship or grant, but your application was preferred above all else. Understand my dear, you’re walking in grace.
Every endowment, gift, or blessing that gives you the edge in any situation and at any time and in any purpose, over someone else, is a work that is all of grace.
John 1:16 (KJV)
And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.
Romans 9:16 (KJV)
So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.
